ART OF WAR?

ART AGAINST WAR
MAKINGS OF AN ANTIWAR SCREENPLAY

Writing screenplays is not my bailiwick so I am currently contacting professional screenwriters and others in the film industry with this idea for an antiwar film.

The idea stems from my new e-mail friendship with JH. Like me, he is an antiwar author. His background, however, was not like my bland one. He was a 60’s hippie/draft dodger and a high school classmate of Steven Spielberg and Lynda Carter. He attended classes at Arizona State University and then dropped out. He later morphed into a happily married (still) man and father with a respectable career of many different jobs, including once being the wine consultant in the 80’s to the future Vice President, Dick Cheney, ergo the idea for a screenplay. Here’s what my friend says about it---“Had ample opportunity to whack him with a 1.5 liter bottle and save a million lives...ah, hindsight.”

                                  So here’s my idea:

Title: Wasted Wine or Splash and Crash or whatever
Theme: Antiwar and revenge
Opening scene or flashback alternatives:
a. Cheney DWI arrests and/or requests for five deferments during Vietnam War
b. JH hippie antiwar days
c. Cheney and cohorts plotting Iraq invasion
d. Enraged Cheney has JH fired as wine consultant when JH splashes wine on him in a heated argument
e. Courtroom where JH and his 60"s hippie antiwar friend are charged with attempted murder of Cheney
f. Plush Washington, DC restaurant. Sommelier and incognito JH deliberately splashes wine on Cheney, who then recognizes JH, becomes enraged and pursues JH into the street where JH’s friend’s car careens onto sidewalk and nearly kills Cheney.
g. whatever else strikes a real screenwriter or Hollywood’s fancy

While Hollywood may be saturated with anti Vietnam War films, America is saturated in continuous warring and spying, and I have written some very dismal scenario's of America's future (see an earlier post). Whenever the arts have a chance to write, draw, display, play, dance, and speak for peace and against war, I say DO IT ARTS!

What do you think of my idea?
